Sweet Memories

I know your face but I can’t recall your name

I hear your voice but I don’t believe a word that you say

You remind me of a girl that I used to know, but that was long ago

Comb my hair the way you do and turn me on my side

Tuck me in and settle me down, my thoughts are running wild

and tell me a story, remind me of my younger years, when I had you here

And what is my name, and what do you want from me now
can’t you see I am thinking about my sweet memories

When I was a boy I took on the work of a man

With a bottle for a toy and a mute for a Father, I buried me head in the sand

and I’d see the other boys marching off to school and wished I could go
but there were seeds to sow

And what is my name, and what do you need from me now
can’t you see I am thinking about my sweet memories

Do you see the scar above my left eye, from taking on my old man

He worked me to the bone and he left me alone, to find my way on the land

But I struggled with me anger and me feelings all of my life, never felt a healing light

And what is my name, and what do you want from me now
can’t you see I am thinking about my sweet memories

Look after yourself, go home now and rest, have a break for a while

They’ll give me ice cream and I fall into a dream, and everything will be sublime

You remind me of a girl that I used to know, but that was long ago
